In Ibirataia, South of Bahia, Selma Abdon Calheira was born on January 4, 1958. It was from the countryside of Bahia that the first forms created by Selma began to shape up, little clay balls that she’d cook as if they were food to fulfil a child’s imagination.Du********* ities of clay and painting and organised workshops, events and meetings with other artists. After 38 years, Selma manages the Cores da terra Studio, providing jobs to over 100 people. Men, women and teenagers from humble origins were patiently prepared and professionalized as highly qualified ceramists. The name itself Cores da terra, was coined by Selma because of her lifelong interest in clay and an endless research into natural pigments. In 1996 she received the price ‘ Gente Que Faz ‘ because of her work with economi********* he poorest areas of Brazil. Her dream becomes true : only the weak ones used to stay in her area, now there is a way to stay and to survive with dignity on their salaries, with education there will be more qualified people and perhaps the destiny of the region may change… Selma Calheira was invited to exhibit her work at the Carroussel du Louvre in Paris in 1998, Expo 96 in New York, Bazar annual da ONU in Geneve IN 1998 and different other locations and exhibitions … Pear is available in a number of sizes.
