Vietnam is however, much more than beaches and cafes, museums and river cruises. For a long time the possibilities of birding and wildlife watching in Vietnam have been largely ignored. It has one of the richest avifaunas of any south-east Asian country and is home to some of south east Asia’s rarest birds and animals. Around 916 species of bird have been recorded (depending on the taxonomy you follow). 19 of these are considered endemics and a further 27 are near endemics.
